As a tenant using RentBetter, you might receive bills for utilities, water usage, or other property-related expenses that have been agreed to by your landlord through the platform.
Here’s a guide on how bills work on RentBetter and what you need to know.
In this article:
What Are Tenant Bills?
Tenant bills are expenses that you’re responsible for paying on top of your rent, such as:
Water usage
Electricity and gas (if not connected in your own name)
Internet or other shared services (if agreed in your lease)
Any other agreed charges - These will typically be outlined in your lease agreement.
How Bills are Received
Your landlord or rental provider will create a bill through RentBetter and send it to you via the portal.
You’ll be notified by email and the bill details will appear in your tenant account under the ‘Tenant Bills’ section.
To view the details of a bill, simply click on it to open it up via the side panel. You’ll be able to see additional information such as any attachments, the due date and other relevant details.
How to Make a Payment for a Bill
Log in to your RentBetter tenant account.
Go to ‘Tenant Bills'.
Click on the bill you'd like to pay to bring up the details.
View the bill details and click ‘Pay Now’.
Follow the prompts to complete your payment via your Bank account or Card
When the bill is paid, the status will automatically update to ‘Paid’ on your Bills dashboard. You’ll also be able to view and download a copy of the receipt for your records.
General FAQs
Who do I contact if I have a question about the bill I received?
For questions about a bill amount or details, you can contact your landlord/rental provider via the message section in your RentBetter account or email them directly outside the platform.
Can I split a bill with other tenants?
Only one tenant can be the primary account holder for the payments, so if you’re sharing a tenancy, you’ll just need to organise how you split the bill and transfer between yourselves outside the platform.

Currently, automatic payments apply to rent only. Bills need to be paid manually via the ‘Pay Now’ option in your Tenant Portal.
Can I request an extension or payment arrangement for a bill?
If you’re having trouble paying a bill on time, contact your landlord or rental provider directly to discuss payment options.
How can I download a copy of a bill?
You'll be able to download a copy of the bill receipt once it's paid. Just click on the bill and then 'View receipt' or 'Download' to download a copy.
